Forbes and the Reputation Institute on Tuesday released their list of the most reputable companies in America, and Amazon is No. 1.

“Amazon is the most reputable company in the U.S. in 2011 because consumers believe that it stands for more than what it sells,” Anthony Johndrow, managing partner at Reputation Institute, told Forbes.

Last year, Johnson & Johnson earned the top spot.

To determine the list, the Reputation Institute conducted an online study of nearly 33,000 Americans, measuring their perception of the 150 largest companies in the United States that they were “somewhat” or “very” familiar with, according to Forbes.
