The year of the rabbit (3 February, 2011 – 22 January, 2012)

This Chinese New Year is the year of the rabbit. Read on to find out what the year has in store for the rabbits and to know more about the Chinese zodiac signs

This Chinese New Year is the year of the Rabbit.  According to an ancient Chinese legend, when Gautam Buddha was on the verge of passing over, he called for the entire animal kingdom to bid them a final farewell in his bodily from. However, only twelve animals could make it and were blessed by Buddha with a year of their own. This led to the Chinese zodiac signs – Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

Unlike Western astrology which is based on the annual solar cycle, Chinese astrology is governed by the lunar cycle. Hence, the Chinese New Year begins with the New Moon in Aquarius, which happens some time between mid January and mid February. Little wonder then, the Chinese New Year does not fall on the same date every year. In contrast to the Sun signs where in if you were born on say, April 1 any year, your zodiac sign would be Aries, your Chinese zodiac sign is determined by the year you were born in.  Thus if you were born on 1 April, 1982, your Chinese zodiac sign would be Dog but your friend who was also born on 1 April may have a different Chinese zodiac sign if she was born in a different year.

This Chinese New Year all the new born babies are going to fall under the Chinese astrological sign of Rabbit.

Getting to know the Rabbit:
Those born under the influence of the Rabbit are born survivors. They are likely to overcome almost any hurdle life tosses at them. The Spiritual law behind their triumph over troubles is that the Rabbits try to think as little as possible about obstacles. They ignore adversity and pretend that everything is wonderful, because they believe that it could easily turn out that way.

You are a rabbit if you were born between:
2 February, 1927 – 22 January, 1928
19 February, 1939 – 7 February, 1940
6 February, 1951 – 26 January, 1952
25 January, 1963 – 12 February, 1964
11 February, 1975 – 30 January, 1976
29 January, 1987 – 16 February, 1988
16 February, 1999 – 4 February, 2000
