Red Nose Day - forthcoming record attempts

Red Nose Day - forthcoming record attempts

Red Nose Day takes place every two years with the simple aim of getting British people to do something funny for money and help change the lives of vulnerable people in UK and Africa.

This year Red Nose Day takes place on 18th March 2011 and Guinness World Records is proud to be partnering with the following events:

On Saturday 5th March, Comic Relief and Babybel worked together with kids TV presenters Dick and Dom to attempt a new record for the Most jokes told in a one-hour joke relay. In Maidstone, UK, 242 people successfully told 228 jokes during the one-hour comedy relay and successfully secured new Guinness World Records title. www.babybelcheesyjokes.co.uk

On Saturday 12th March, British Airways and Comic Relief will launch the funniest flight in history with a record attempt for the world’s highest stand-up comedy gig. Comedians Dara O’Brian, Jack Whitehall and Jon Richardson will be taking to the sky to give competition winners a front row seat as they attempt a new Guinness World Records achievement. www.facebook.com/britishairways

On Monday 14th March, BBC Radio 3 and Comic Relief are opening the doors of the Royal Albert Hall for one of the strangest concerts ever seen – the world’s largest kazoo ensemble! A celebrity band featuring Al Murray, Jason Manford, will take to the stage for a night of comedy and music, then lead the entire audience in a (hopefully) record breaking kazoo rendition. http://www.bbc.co.uk/rednoseday/radio3/

Keep your ears peeled for a special marathon length record attempt for Comic Relief to be announced in the next few days!

Comic Relief was launched on Christmas Day in 1985. At that time, a devastating famine was crippling Ethiopia and something had to be done.  The idea was simple – Comic Relief would make the British public laugh while raising money to help people in desperate need.

red nose -3 Following this, Red Nose Day was created in 1988 and raised a staggering £15m.  To date, twelve Red Nose Days have raised more than £500m.  That money has helped, and is helping, to support people and communities in dire need both in the UK and Africa.

By taking part in fundraising on Red Nose Day, you can help change lives forever.  Comic Relief spends all the money raised by the public to give extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa a helping hand to turn their lives around.
